Where does investing fit in our lives?
Most of us earn through a job or a business. We meet our expenses, put aside what we can, and repeat. Setting aside what remains can itself be a challenge.
But look at what this cycle supports: our everyday needs, a home, vacations and experiences, our children’s education and marriage, and the life we hope to sustain.
These are the leaf nodes of our lives—the needs and responsibilities for which we work and save.
Our earnings are not guaranteed to continue for as long as we live. Employment can end unexpectedly, or our working years can come to an end. The needs our income supports can continue.
For many households in India, meeting those needs after employment ends largely remains their own responsibility.
Investing plays a crucial role in building the resources to support these needs throughout our lives. It cannot guarantee every outcome, but it helps us prepare for a life whose expenses can outlast our earnings.
